Audiorad to Headline Benefit Concert for NBIA
We are honored to be a part of a special concert fundraiser for a very special kid, Drew, with a very rare disorder, NBIA. “BAND TOGETHER FOR A CURE” will raise money for research to find a cure for Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation, a progressive neurological disorder. NBIA is a rare neurological disorder characterized by the progressive degeneration of the nervous system. This is a progressive and fatal disease for which, today, there is NO cure.
Drew was diagnosed when he was 11 years old. This currently impacts Drew right now in the following ways: he has severe dystonia in my hands {making any fine motor tasks almost impossible} and in his lower face {which makes speaking and chewing very difficult}; he also has retina degeneration and is now legally blind. When Drew was asked why he wanted to do this fundraiser, he replied, “I really want to help other kids I have met who are more recently diagnosed and have not been impacted so severely yet.”
Today, Drew attends a private school for kids with learning differences where Capernaum Young Life leader Jake Aschbacher serves as his daily aide. Drew started attending Capernaum last year and has been loving his time spent there on Tuesday nights. His mom has shared about how his time with Capernaum has really changed his life – it brings a light and special joy to his life that means so much to him. He loves his Capernaum community!
Now it’s time for Drew’s community – Capernaum, Young Life, school, neighbors, family and friends – to help Drew raise money to find a cure! From Drew, and everyone who loves him and someone with NBIA: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
